3D PVC patch ‘ANTWERP PRIDE...
De “Progress Pride” vlag stelt de basis van deze ‘Antwerp Pride 2023’ patch!
Op de voorgrond staat de ‘oude’ hand van Antwerpen (afgeleid van de de mythe zoals onderaan beschreven) met daar in de tekst ANTWERP PRIDE 2023. Deze patch is gelimiteerd op 200 exemplaren, dus OP=OP!

de meest doorwaadbare doorgang van de Schelde werd bewaakt door Druon Antigoon, een meedogenloze reus, die in een burcht woonde waarop later Het Steen is gebouwd. Als reus had Antigoon natuurlijk geen moeite om te waden in dit drassig Scheldegebied en maakte hier misbruik van: hij eiste tolgeld van elke overstekende reiziger of voorbijvarende schipper.
Wie de tol niet kon of wilde betalen, werd voor de keuze gesteld: ofwel zijn rechterhand laten afhakken om erna in het water geworpen te worden, ofwel het opnemen tegen de reus. Elke overmoedige reiziger die het duel durfde aangaan, vond steevast een ijselijke dood onder de knots van Druon Antigoon.
Maar zijn afschuwelijk schrikbewind was buiten Silvius Brabo gerekend. De moedige Romein daagde de reus uit en na een lange strijd lag Druon Antigoon dood aan zijn voeten. Brabo hakte de reus zijn kop af en daarna de rechterhand. Hij stak de reuzenhand hoog boven zijn hoofd en wierp ze triomfantelijk tot over de Schelde, terwijl hij riep: “Tot bij de plek waar de hand valt, zal de streek Brabant heten!”
Volgens de sage werd daarom deze plek ‘Handwerpen’ – later vervormd tot ‘Antwerpen’ – genoemd.

The Scheldt’s most fordable passage was guarded by Druon Antigoon, a ruthless giant, who lived in a castle on which Het Steen was later built. As a giant, Antigoon naturally had no trouble wading in this swampy Scheldt area and took advantage of this: he demanded tolls from every crossing traveller or passing boatman.
Those who could not or would not pay the toll were faced with a choice: either have their right hand cut off and be thrown into the water afterwards, or face the giant. Any overconfident traveller who dared the duel invariably found an icy death under Druon Antigoon’s mace.
But his horrifying reign of terror was beyond Silvius Brabo. The brave Roman challenged the giant and after a long battle, Druon Antigoon lay dead at his feet. Brabo chopped off the giant’s head and then its right hand. He raised the giant’s hand high above his head and triumphantly threw it across the Scheldt, shouting, “To the spot where the hand falls, the region will be called Brabant!”
According to legend, this is why this place was called ‘Handwerpen’ – later transformed into ‘Antwerpen’ (Antwerp).

Le passage à gué le plus important de l’Escaut était gardé par Druon Antigoon, un géant impitoyable qui vivait dans un château sur lequel Het Steen a été construit plus tard. En tant que géant, Antigoon n’avait naturellement aucun mal à patauger dans cette zone marécageuse de l’Escaut et il en profitait pour exiger un droit de péage de tous les voyageurs qui traversaient ou des bateliers qui passaient.
Ceux qui ne pouvaient ou ne voulaient pas payer le péage étaient placés devant un choix : se faire couper la main droite et être ensuite jeté à l’eau, ou affronter le géant. Tout voyageur trop confiant qui osait le duel trouvait invariablement une mort glacée sous la masse de Druon Antigoon.
Mais l’horrible règne de terreur de Druon Antigoon dépasse Silvius Brabo. Le courageux Romain défia le géant et, après une longue bataille, Druon Antigoon gisait mort à ses pieds. Brabo coupe la tête du géant, puis sa main droite. Il lève la main du géant au-dessus de sa tête et la jette triomphalement sur l’Escaut en criant : “À l’endroit où la main tombera, la région s’appellera Brabant !”
Selon la saga, c’est la raison pour laquelle cet endroit s’appelait “Handwerpen” – transformé plus tard en “Antwerpen” (Anvers).
